Product Description This practical, straightforward introduction to dialysis takes an interdisciplinary approach, providing an overview of dialysis technology and the relationship of dialysis to nursing, nutrition, and medicine. Using its hallmark question-and-answer format, the content starts with the basics, including a review of fluids and electrolytes and the renal system, and prepares the reader for more advanced discussions as they are introduced. And with its lifespan coverage and useful quick reference content, its no wonder its considered the premier resource for educating health professionals on the essentials of dialysis and the related patient care. * Focuses on the roles of the multidisciplinary dialysis team, including the patient and the patients family, to provide a comprehensive approach to dialysis and the related patient care * Features a question-and-answer format that streamlines the learning process and engages the reader * Offers comprehensive coverage including a review of fluids and electrolytes through transplantation, infection control, and the important psychosocial aspects of dialysis treatment * Covers the lifespan with separate chapters on pediatric hemodialysis and end stage renal disease in the elderly * Includes a chapter on home dialysis therapies to provide instruction on this important aspect of care * Provides definitions of new terms and clear explanations of concepts along with the "how and why" of principles and effects to facilitate learning and foster critical thinking

Education, Dialysis September 12, 2009 S. Vargas (FL) I bought this book because I wanted to expand my knowledge. But the truth is the book is very basic, too basic for me. As a dialysis nurse the book really could provide me with new information, but still I really like this book because I use it in class for new dialysis nurses. Its very simple and easy for them to follow and understand. If you are new to the renal world, this is a good buy. If you have been around dialysis for some time, I wouldn't recommend it.
Great Book June 28, 2009 D. Grubbs (Pensacola, FL) I bought this and the "Clinical manual of dialysis" together. This is an amazingly easy book to read with a wealth of information. I love the question and answer format. I HATE reading, and am your typical "bathroom reader". This format makes that very easy. I am only 1/3 through the book, but definitely find it worth the money. I am not new to nursing, but I have only been in dialysis for about 6 months. This book has opened my eyes to the vast complexities of dialysis and kidney disease. Graduating top of my class in RN school and making 100's in A&P I and II, I still never knew how much the kidney regulated and how much change there is in a body once they hit stage V kidney disease.
Studying for the CNN exam?? June 15, 2009 Phyllis B. Berggren (Denver, CO) Whether studying for the CNN exam or needing the 30 contact hours available using this book, it is a detailed and concise review of dialysis. I would highly recommend this book to anyone working or just interested in dialysis nursing.
Review of Hemodialysis for Nurses and Dialysis personnel May 18, 2009 Jeanette A. Chancellor (Texas) Excellent resource to review dialysis guidlines and standards, for all who work in the Dialysis setting.
A must to get CCHT, CDN, and CNN March 13, 2009 G. Vasquez (Laredo, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I passed the CCHT with no problems as a dialysis tech using this book. Dont buy anything else.
