Tibetan monks signal the beginning and end of a meditation period with small cymbals. This chime can be used for the same purpose. The two polished aluminum rods are precision tuned to almost, but not quite, the same pitch. When struck simultaneously, the rods begin ringing with a pulsating beat, which helps heighten and focus awareness. The rods are fastened to a smooth, cherry-finished hardwood base that measures 7-1/2 inches long, small enough to keep on a meditation table or by the bed. A rubber-tipped mallet and listening exercises are included. Musician Gary Kvistad founded Woodstock Chimes in 1979, and today the family-owned company produces a wide range of handcrafted, precision-tuned chimes.  Watch out if you have a dog November 29, 2008

Compact, well-designed, and well made chime with a sweet, high tone provided that the chime is struck very gently. However, if struck with anything more than the lightest touch, the chime sends my dog running for cover into the other room--must really hurt her ears. To solve the problem I bought a Tibetan singing bowl with a mid-range tone instead.

I have 2 Woodstock chimes and enjoy them for their appearance, quality, and heavenly sounds. I bought this as a Friday sale impulse and am glad I did. Does it sound as beautiful as the considerably more expensive chimes? No, but for the price, quality, and simple calming sound I am not in the least bit disappointed. I will likely pick up a couple of more once they go on sale again for token gifts. I really do not understand the negative reviews for this product considering the quality at this price point.
