5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   September 2, 2010
Saffron Bright-Rawlings (Eugene, OR)
I am old enough now to be getting unwanted facial hair growth. This spring is one of my favorite purchases I've made in years. It really works! It's easy and doesn't take much time. It's pretty "ouchy" on my upper lip, but it does such a good job that it's worth it. It doesn't hurt at all on my chin and neck. Totally worth every penny of the purchase price.

5 out of 5 stars It works! It really works! (Oh, and OUCH!)   August 29, 2010

As others have stated, there is a learning curve so don't give up! This item really is not meant for eyebrows, and I highly discourage using it there. The manual warns against it because you could pull out eyelashes instead! There is not much precision with this product so pulling out your eyelashes is a valid concern.

I don't recommend attempting it for hours on end until you get it, I recommend trying for maybe 10 minutes at a time across many days. It helps to try it on longer hair first to get the hang of it. If it's not possible to allow the facial hair to grow longer, try another easily accessible spot like your leg. If I had not tried it on my leg first and seen that it could work, I probably would have given up before figuring it out. A lighted magnifying mirror is more than helpful, it's essential.

If you look closely at the spring when you bend it into a U shape, you will notice that the space between the springs is wider at the outer edge than it is at the inner edge. This is what makes it work--the springs are open at the top to allow hair in, and then you rotate the springs to close them together, grabbing and pulling the hairs out. How you place it on your face and how much you must rotate it depends on how fine the hair is. It just takes playing around with it, unfortunately. I thought the pictures were misleading because I needed to hold the Spring Sprong at about a 45 degree angle to make it work. I hold it at a 45 degree angle to my face, just below the area I want to remove the hair from, and while sweeping upward I rotate both my thumbs inward to tighten the spring and pull out the hair.

When holding the Spring Sprong between my thumb and index fingers, thumbs inward tightens the spring and thumbs outward opens the spring. This is the basic motion you will be doing, altering the angle until you find what works for that hair. You will also need to sweep from different directions to get all the hairs.

The first use is the most painful. If you use it regularly, you will prevent the hairs from rooting properly so it won't hurt as much. To minimize pain, take a pain medication about 20 minutes before using this product. Placing a warm washcloth on the area immediately before use helps as does place a cool washcloth on the area after you are finished. This is essentially a faster means of tweezing, so there will be some redness. The redness goes away in about 10 minutes for me.

To remove hairs from the product, I pull it apart and blow, but running it under water would probably work well if you don't wait hairs all over the place. I use rubbing alcohol to sanitize it between uses. Good luck and enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars R.e.m. Spring Sprong is great   August 19, 2010

I have very fair, extremely sensitive skin and was concerned the R.e.m. Spring Sprong wouldn't work for me. I'm so glad I ordered it: while it's a tad bit painful at first (but not any more than tweezing), I quickly got used to it, and it's so much easier and better than waxing, with no red skin or blemishes afterwards. It's fantastic for the upper lip, chin, and jawline to get those fine hairs that were impossible for me to tweeze before (and waxing left me with nasty red bumps for days). I had absolutely no problem figuring out how to work it: it even works great just rolling it flat (not much curving at all) in an upward motion. What an inexpensive, wonderful product!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome product for removing facial fuzz.   August 15, 2010
Crystal Taylor (Fontaine-les-Dijon, Dijon France)
This REM Spring Sprong is a wonderful product. I was not holding out much hope that this product would do the job, but after 10 years of tweezing and bleaching various areas of facial hair, I am a convert to the REM Spring Sprong. While, I will likely keep my tweezers nearby for singular strands of thicker facial hair, the REM Spring Sprong got my upper lip super smooth with only 20 minutes of effort the first time around. (The package suggests that regular maintainace will take much less time going forward). It also worked great on my cheeks. I had pretty good success on my chin/jawline area, but that was the somewhat less fantastic of the three areas (upper lip, cheeks, and chin). It may be the angle that makes it more difficult to use the tool at the jawline. I am hopeful, though, that with more practice, I will be able to get into those nooks and crannies as well. I plan to order another one, so that I have a backup in my car for unexpected emergencies :)

5 out of 5 stars Works wonderfully   August 11, 2010

I've been trying to figure out a better system for taking care of my "grooming" this summer, and this is definitely the product I will be sticking with. I've worked with the creams (frustrating - from the rashes to not really working completely), and tried waxing strips for a little bit... but neither of those were cutting it.

This product is easy to use, easy to clean, and bottom line: works. We actually own one of those mirrors that magnify your face 60x, and I've stood in front of that, used this, and seen the results.
