Product Description The TUBEPre is a single channel preamp based on a 12AX7 vacuum tube circuit that provides a stable, transformer-free signal path. The unit can be used as the first stage of a live or studio system, as a mic preamp or direct box. The dual-servo gain stage design employs no capacitors providing ultra-low noise performance and wide dynamic control that allows the TUBEPre to boost the desirable signal without increasing unwanted background noise.

Nice little preamp November 24, 2008 Amourdutigre (Kansas City) This preamp is a real value for the money, and is excellent for warming up the audio from those inexpensive Chinese large diaphragm condenser microphones (MXL, Rhode, etc). It can also be used as an active DI for electric instruments such as bass and guitar. The case is well made out of aluminum and steel, (no plastic), and the unit is solidly built. It is no $1000+ preamp, and is not designed as such, however, I use it in my studio and it sits proudly right next to my Joe Meek units in the rack (mounted on a rack shelf ...there is a mounting screw included with the unit). It is perfect for warming up audio for DAW recordings, though I am an analog and ADAT only recordist. One thing to consider with this unit however, is that the tube that it comes with is a no-name Chinese unit, and sounds rather thin. You should consider getting either a NOS american unit or a Russian named tube (I used a Russian made Electro-Harmonix 12AX7EH low noise tube, and it made a huge difference in the sound). If you need a preamp, and don't have thousands in your budget, consider this unit! ADT
Best $100 I Ever Spent October 14, 2008 Thomas J. Mcguire (Iowa) This tube preamp is amazing. What really makes it shine is the option to send as much or as little input audio through the tube. The effect is the right amount of microphone warmth for each job. The output gain has a really wide range, which means that I can drive the tube hard and still get pleasant audio out of the unit. One more thing - the TUBEPre is quiet, much quieter than anything else in this price class.
Affordable, Gets the job done! February 29, 2008 Carol H. Garrett (Eureka, Kansas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you need the audio boost....but don't have many bucks...the mono tube mic is the way to go! I used it until I was able to move on...but it served me well...Still use it from time to time. Carol Garrett
