5 out of 5 stars Can't ask for more   September 7, 2010

The Motorocker worked great right out of the box. Simple to use, clear sound, synced right away with both my Blackberry curve and my Droid X. FM feature is cool too but don't actually use it much. This is just a great, reliable unit that does what it says.

1 out of 5 stars Keeps falling off my ear..   September 4, 2010

I bought this product based on its numerous positive reviews. Unfortunately, it does not fit either of my ears, and has forced me to look for another setup for Bluetooth in my car. Silly, isnt it? That it doesn't fit my ear... what a shame. Yes, I realize that its not designed to be worn over the ear, but when you realize that its rather useless as advertised, and results in needing to be charged, placed in direct line of ones voice, needs to be cycled on and off manually, and retuned each time one wants to FM transmit, its really just a big ear model, but it doesn't fit my ear like other over the ear models do.

The sound quality of the built-in speaker is quite nice, but not better than any other over the ear models I have had previously utilizing A2DP protocol, and even from Motorola. The battery life is enough to reward Motorola with beating out much of the competition, but still lousy and unpredictable enough that, unless you wish to have a power cord crossing the visual field to the visor, you must be ready for a phone call to be had without the device, while it recharges. There is no prime real estate in the car for the device as there is no single location that allows it to remain placed (like a radar detector, nav, etc). I attempted to route a mini-USB cable under and through the instrument panel, and then up behind the A-pillar trim to the underside of the visor, but the signal loss over that length of USB cord is great enough to result in an unplugged state as recognized by the T505 (so it gets no power then).

And then theres the fact that one must manually turn the device on and off...even when its plugged in to the ignition controlled 12v socket. If it came on when the car powered it, and off when the cars power ceased, it would be much more likely to have received a two or three star rating from me. This issue alone obliterates its usefulness over an ear model. The T505 must be manually turned on and off, which requires pressing the power button on the back of the unit for a few seconds each time. Because it has a rather strong radio, it will hold a Bluetooth connection at great distance, and if you simply walk away from the car with your phone, calls will remain routed though the T505 unless its powered off. The FM transmitter, while a good idea, is poorly executed as well...necessitating a new channel selection on the radio each time the unit is used.

To paint a picture of just how time consuming the device is, realize that each time you get into the car, you first power on the device, and then separately power the FM transmitter... wait for it to tell you what station it wants you to use, tune to that station, realize its static level is too high, so you press the FM button again, and it tries another channel, and so on, and so fourth... If you wait for a call to come in to set it up, you'll keep the person waiting upwards of a full minute while fiddling with the thing... and you arent supposed to fiddle while driving, thats the point of getting the unit in the first place.

Also for the FM transmitter, unless you live in BFE, which probably wont have a cell signal for your phone to work anyway, the FM transmission design of the T505 may drive you toward self mutilation. Unless you use the device as your sole music while driving, you have to remember a different FM station to tune to each time you power cycle the device as it searches for what it thinks is the clearest channel each time... I've started it about 8 times in the same spot with it directing me to different FM channels each time. Seriously?

To use a corded headset, you plug it in and thats it! I find it rather incredible that Motorola sold as many of these as they have. Without a checklist mounted to my steering wheel, I'd probably either forget to turn the thing on, off, tune the FM station, re-tune it when realizing that its first FM suggestion is bad, or recharge it... This is just too much work for an item intended to simplify ones use of their phone in the car. C'mon Moto... this item is just ridiculous. If Amazon had negative stars, you'd have won worst purchase of the year award.

4 out of 5 stars Works as promised, versatile   September 3, 2010

I use the T505 with my 3-G iphone. The FM transmission to the stereo works flawlessly. The device finds an interference free frequency and a voice prompt directs you to tune into that frequency. The microphone for voice on phone calls is good but not great. When I use it in my pickup truck it does a fair but not great job of noise cancelation. In the quieter Volvo the microphone works better. The design is simple and logical. Battery life excellent. An advantage with a Bluetooth iphone or any other Bluetooth phone with audio media, is that you can play your music collection over the stereo system. When an incoming call comes in it quickly lowers the volume to make it ready to answer the call. Nice! I use it download lectures and audio books for long drives. Great feature. Overall a very good product. The voice quality is good just not excellent so not quite warranting a 5 star rating. Recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Couple of flaws but still a great unit   September 3, 2010
Matt Baker
I've been very impressed with the T505. It's not perfect, it occasionally forgets to connect to my phone and the speaker volume is only average but I really haven't had any other problems. The FM transmitter works great, I live in a large metropolitan area with a crowed radio band but it's still usually able to find a decent station. I do occasionally have to change stations but not that often. One kinda of annoying thing, although no fault of the unit itself. Where I charge the phone in the house is close to the garage, so if I don't turn off the T505 or bluetooth on my phone, the phone stays connected. If you get a call, the sound will go through the T505.
