Too buggy February 24, 2010 Warren Brown (Rowlett, TX USA) I originally purchased "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09: All Play" for the Wii because I enjoyed the "Wii Sports" golf game, and I wanted a game where I could play more courses.
I was disappointed by the manual, since it was only about four (tiny) pages long, and it didn't cover 99% of the features of the game. The in-game help is not much better, leaving the user to figure out the vast majority of the game through trial and error (and sometimes serendipity). Fortunately, you can ignore a lot of the features and still enjoy the game.
Unfortunately, the gameplay is usually ruined by one of the myriad bugs. I won't try to list all of the ones that I found, but here are some of the highlights:
* Lockups so severe that the user is forced to unplug the Wii console
* Audio that stops and starts, or that is garbled beyond recognition
* Tournaments that are unplayable in the current season because they are listed out of order
* Tournament days that are simply skipped, with all opponents shooting a zero on every hole
* Opponents in tournaments shooting ridiculous scores, like 30 under par, or a hole-in-one on a par five hole
* Lessons that are simply impossible to complete
* Bonus items that when equipped do not increase the total bonus, even though they so did so previously
* Balls falling into the cup, but then treated as if they went out of bounds, including the accompanying two-stroke penalty
* Balls hovering five feet off of the ground (my personal favorite)
I found out later that this is nothing new for EA Sports, with other Tiger Woods titles having the same types of bugs, and often the exact same bugs.
Like any user that finds massive amounts of bugs in a software title, I contacted EA's customer support, which was no simple feat, told them about my problems, and asked four simple questions. I received one brief (three line) form-letter in response saying that if the game was not functioning properly, I could replace it under their 90-day warranty program. I responded many times over the next sveral months asking if they could actually answer my questions, but never got another response from them.
I was thinking about purchasing the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010 title, but with what I now know about EA Sports' lack of quality control and complete lack of customer support, I think I'll save my money.
this is the coolest February 17, 2010 Walking In Shalom (Fort Wayne, Indiana) Love all the courses. I could never play golf due to physical hindrance but I can this
one. Feel like I am right there and my character is looking fine.
Golf Game February 7, 2010 Scott E. Drummond Jr. (Alexandria, VA USA) Gave this as a present to my son in law. He truly enjoyed it and like the way it played. His two daughters also started to get the hang of it.
EA and Tiger putting failure January 7, 2010 Michael J. Thomas (Rochester Hills, MI) I got this game as a xmas gift and was very disappointed. I had already been using the wii fit golf game and enjoyed the realism of the swing on the balance board, so when I started to play the EA game I was immediately disappointed in the non - realistic swing characteristic and then when I went to putting the game became worthless. You are suppose to be playing top notch pro gold courses and you have to pound the ball to get it to go somewhere.
It takes practice October 28, 2009 Virgil (The South) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At first, I was very disappointed - especially with the putting. I scanned the internet for a for a few tips to make the game more enjoyable, and found a common theme - this game takes some practice and some thought, but if you put a little effort into it, it's very rewarding. Here are some useful things I've discovered:
1) Putting - read the "most helpful" Amazon review - very well said. You must read the putt, just like in real golf! Read the break, judge the distance, and adjust if you deem it necessary. The first time I played, I three and four putted every hole. Now, I can make most putts under 10 feet, and have even made a few over seventy feet!
2) Course management - watch the wind, how uphill/downhill a hole plays, where the water and sand is, etc. Don't hit driver on every hole! You'll wind up in a bad position, or left with a tricky shot (i.e. between clubs, less than 80 yards - something that requires a 65-70% shot). Again, this game is a great simulation of real golf - because a good round is a round well managed.
3) Use the club tuner - I increased the Power on my driver, maxed out the draw bias, and minimized spin. I'm hitting drives well over 300 yards now.
4) On short, "feel" shots, or shots between clubs, try adjusting the loft of the club - lower right corner - you can hover on the club icon, hold B, and open or close the club face. I find this useful in shaving a few yards off a club.
5) Learn how to manage your skillset - "General Experience" points combine with specific skills to help you go up a level. Don't max out your power and leave everything else alone. Focus on taking the skills up in tandem. An easy, quick way to earn a lot of experience in Career mode is to play the Tiger Challenge - the tasks are short, and when complete, you earn a lot of points. Spend an afternoon doing this and watch how many level ups you can get.
Practice, manage your skills, and manage your way around the course - then you'll likely agree this is a very fun, very realistic golf game.
